Dear Master,
To build up my spirt power, I have pressed on into the rugged mountains.
Beyond these peaks, there is a legendary waterfall...
Never mind, never mind. It's not my creed to lie.
I do think that I need to build my spirit power to grow stronger.
But this spirit power—to be honest...
I'm not really sure what it is.
Lord Ieyasu lived through troubled times, and in the end, he entrusted me with
keeping this country's peace. Still...
I wonder if he thought that as a copy of Shogun Tamura's "Sohaya-no-Tsurugi", I
had the strength in me to fight demons.
Or that as a copy of the "Treasure Sword of Sakanoue", I would be able to
protect this world.
I wonder if he thought that I would be able to copy that strength if I bore this
name. What was Lord Ieyasu thinking?
...Um, I'll go and stand under the waterfall.
Dear Master,
Cold water quenching is what gives swords their sharpness... but I'm in a human
body.
Brrr, this is very cold. The old tanuki is also complaining about the cold.
The tanuki I mean is one that was loitering by the Otemon gate when I stopped
by in Edo.
He looked charming enough, so I brought him along with me.
He was muttering on about how he worried about his family's future, and how he
worried about his son's and son's wife's relationship and so forth, you see.
When I said that with the protection of a copy of Shogun Tamura's sword, at the
very least, the next 250 years or so would be peaceful, he stared at me like a fox
had bamboozled him.
Anyway, I'll take him to Suruga with me.
Dear Master,
Life is like unto a long journey with a heavy burden.
Said the tanuki as I climbed long flights of steps while he sat on my head, talking
smugly.
From start to finish. What you wanted to do, and what you left to do.
Well done, Tokugawa Ieyasu! Way to go, Tosho Daigongen!
I'd compliment him, but his plums keep slapping me in the head and it's awful.
When I reached the top, the tanuki jumped off and had the gall to lecture me.
You were chosen because he just happened to have you at the end, he said.
Be patient, go without haste. Thanks for walking with me, he said.
"Sohaya-no-Tsurugi utsusu nari". Maybe I really am just an ordinary sword, only
good at cutting.
Even so, at the end, that old tanuki told me: be the protector of this land.
That remark, that wish—it became spirit power and raised me up, turning me
into a spirit sword.
So what raises my spirit power in my current state are my current master's
wishes.
I think that's enough reminiscing. Master, wish for me to act. Up till now, from
here on.
