Yes,"In regards to the current battle, I"...

...What are you writing? I would say this isn't the most suitable place to write a poem.

Hm, Kasen Kanesada. I am recorDING the battle situation. It is useful to put it into written word.

My, how diligent of you.

I like writing things down. I wonDER if this too is the influence of my partner.

Ah, if that's the case I can greatly sympathise with you. As expected of a fellow Nosada.

However, when I trY it's harder than I thought, and I am far from the strong brushstrokes like those of my partner.

I wonder if that's because we Nosada have a reputation for having bad handwriting or whatever?

Hm, no wonder I'm having trouble.

I suppose. But, everyone will have a hard time trying something new, to a degree.

I see. So, did you go through a similar hard time?

Hahaha. If one admits defeat over such a trifle matter, one would lose his reputation as someone of the arts. ...Hahaha. Hahahahaha.

Yeah, I'm an Izuminokami Kanesada just like what's distinctly engraved on your nakago.

Nosada's got sort of senior connections with me, you see. I'll call you senpai for that. You don't mind that, eh?

Of course, that's fine. However, what should I call yoU?

Kah! Don't make the sword himself say that, just call me what you'd like.

Hm, in that case, I'll call you kouhai.

...Y-Yeah! That's good, senpai.

YeS, kouhai. Have you been kickING their ass?

Ohh? I don't think you were someone related to Benkei, but...

I am Oni Musashi's partner, Ningen Mukotsu. My partner bore the name Oni Musashi Nagayoshi, being calLED 'Oni' because he was as strong as one.

Gahahahaha! I see, that's interesting!

He alsO carriES the anecdote with him that he destroyed the checkpoint at Seta bridge.

Heheh, those are just like Benkei on the Bridge1 and The Subscription List2, aren't they? All the more excellent. If your former master is part of the reason for Musashibou Benkei's fame carrying into the later ages, he's no different from being related.

...Yes, I truly am happy! After all, Musashibou's naginata and Oni Musashi's yari have assembled here right now!

YeS, if wE stand together we are invincible, aRE we not?

↑ 1Benkei on the Bridge is a noh play depicting the first meeting of Benkei and Minamoto no Yoshitsune on Gojō Bridge. A synopsis can be found here.

That year in early summer, his mother was waiting at Kaneyama for her five sons to return.

He got a letter from mother that she heard from Ranmaru, Boumaru, and Rikimaru, who had accompanied Nobunaga on his travels to Kyoto, that they would get time off in the summer.

After all, according to Lord Nobunaga he had reached the point where he thought it feasible to achieve the military unification of Japan.

They would spend the summer at Kaneyama as five, together with their mother— or, that was how it was supposed to be.

...The hell, ain't that full of foreshadowing?

His mother, who was waiting anxiously for her sons to come any moment now, received news that Honnouji Temple burned down. It was ten days later that she received letters from three of her sons.

My partner, who received that same news from Honnouji, returned barely with his life from Shinano, and grieved together with his mother lamenting the workings of the world.

His mother and my partner must'VE thought such. ...That they wanted to see him, even if just one more time.

...Ahh, geez, just say it clearly! I couldn't return how much my master loved me to him anyway, and I can't cut down... the workings of the world...

I am a spear saID to have accompanied my partner on his fierce battles. However, just for this moment, lET me be be the cross-shaped brushpoint relaying my partner's heart.

What a great view! The gun barrels are all lined up up front!

The first battle in which guns were used in an organized way, huh. If the accuracy of the matchlock guns in this age had been higher, the age of swords may have ended much earlier.

Precisely because they don't hit, they've got 3000 musketeers. War is fought with spears and swords... wasn't it? You say some scary things, Daihannya Nagamitsu.

Haha. Did I act too much like a know-it-all? I've been in the hands of the Ashikaga shogunate... And passed from Lord Nobunaga, to Lord Ieyasu. Besides, I was also in the hands of the one currently holed up in Nagashino Castle, Lord Nobumasa... Well, I suppose I've spent more time as a treasure.

Even if the age of swords would end here, you'd still have a part to play, is that what you're saying?

Even if their use changes, I want to believe that the things that should remain are passed down.

Haa, as expected of Mister 600 Kan. The things you say are on a whole other level.

My, that's one sharp tongue.

Ahh~, did the smell of gunsmoke and exploding gunpowder get to your head? If you say something like that here, you might become something that's not worthy of being passed down.

Is that condescension? Even as a joke... it's somewhat in bad taste.

...I'm pretty legit? Even among the Touken Danshi, there may be ones worth passing down and ones not worth passing down.

Alright! Then, since it'd be a problem if Lord Nobunaga wipes the floor here all too soon, I suppose I'll go cheer on the Takeda army.

...Huh, even though your former master is risking his life on the frontlines?

What, that man won't find his end here, and it wouldn't be interesting if he didn't have to give it his all to win, would it?

Besides, if you just go on about shoulds and shouldn'ts, fitting and not fitting..., you'll miss out on encountring the truly beautiful things.
