Dear Master,
Training is what we call the process of re-evaluating ourselves through visiting places to which we are connected.
For me, that means the Inaba clan or the Hosokawa clan.
I am a sword that went back and forth between these two clans, and so I have affection for both.
Considering that fact... there's a certain place I'd like to visit first of all.
Dear Master,
I'm in Dejima, Nagasaki.
In this era, it was the only place in the country open to the rest of the world.
Even after Japan was said to be a completely closed country, in fact, all contact with foreigners had not been cut off.
Trade, both public and private, still thrived here in Dejima.
So, I'm here undercover on a job for Lord Inaba Minonokami Masanori of Odawara.
I'm fortunate that this former master of mine is open-minded about foreign culture.
The Dutch merchant ships have just entered port.
Oh my, it's just as my former master said.
There are costumes, musical instruments, a rhythm, making my heart dance...
On a long voyage, song and dance are essential. Both for the body and the spirit.
And once the voyagers arrive at port, their songs and dances create connections with others, overcoming the language barrier.
A pure belief, a pure desire—that's all there is to it. In this way, the formless takes form. It's something ephemeral, existing only here and now.
Dear Master,
I'm making my way to the Hosokawa clan.
I'm going as a cultural envoy, on behalf of Lord Masanori.
My present task will be to communicate this to the Hosokawa clan.
How incredibly joyous this is.
I can't keep saying I'm inexperienced.
Though I am but a lone sword, I must make this performance a success.
I'll rise to the challenge, utilizing all my experiences so far.
And finally, I'll witness the fleeting moments of those here, learn what there is to learn, and return to you with what I gain.
